The Royal Canal Way is a 146km cycle route in Ireland. It is the longest Greenway in Ireland. It follows a flat towpath along the bank of the Royal Canal. The surface is typical canal towpath of gravel, grass, mud and tarmac. The Royal Canal links the River Liffey in Dublin to the River Shannon in Longford and passes through counties Kildare, Meath, Westmeath and Longford.

The route is used by cyclists and walkers and being flat is fairly easy.  There are access points approximately every 10km along the way and five designated Trailheads at Maynooth, Enfield, Mullingar, Cloondara, and Longford town where you can find cafe, accommodation, bike shops etc. There are lots to see along with way including historic bridges, locks, abundant wildlife, canal side villages

The growing popularity of the trail has led to some tension between user groups so please observe the Greenway Code of Conduct when using it.
